About Us

Television and cinema has respectively joined in the popular media world which started with radio. “Setup”, “communication” and “distribution” of both the audio and audio-visual messages presented to the taste of the audience and consideration of the said messages with the “feedback” received from them are a process which requires scientificity in its own right. In the present day, such departments as “Radio, Television and Cinema” and “Visual Communication Design” are established for tis purpose and aim at bringing up information-endowed individuals who shall be specialised in their own respective fields.

Starting from ethical approach and being aware of the fact that “the media is the mirror of a society”, these departments also aim at bringing up individuals endowed with information required by the contemporary technology, who can develop critical and systematic thinking.

Established for these purposes within the Faculty of Communication, in the Visual Communication Design Departmentand the Radio, Television and Cinema Department, which has ben established this year (2018), ou students are being and will be provided with theoretical and practical information on the cultural and social aspects of communication, art of cinema and video, our students’ specialisation on audio-visual area as well as television arts and technologies, production and direction, scriptwriting, television programming, filmmaking and radio broadcasting.

Development of technology, prominence of visuality, diversification of distribution/ broadcasting facilities have all turned cinema and television to an important branch of industry or to the “fourth art” in the world in recent years. Radio of which popularity will never cease to exist is a medium leading individuals in each and every environment where television and cinema do not exist. As known, these areas require a combination of creativity and technology as well as theoretical information; they are interdisciplinaryareas and education and training in such areas require a practice-basedcurriculum which may display flexibility by the interest of a student.  Application of such a curriculum which adopts the “excellence criterion” in academic terms is the main goal of the Faculty of Communication.

Further, our students will be able to elect subjects among “elective subjects” in the areas in which they themselves want to specialise/study as well as area-specific “common subjects” in both departments in this Faculty.  Such a student choice isone of the strongest aspectsof this Faculty.

Accomplishment of education by an academic staff consisting of strong and experienced personalities of communication who follows the current progresses and state-of-the-art equipment in a century which is called the “age of communication” emphasises the richness and value of this Faculty.

Located in a region with a strategic importance as required by its geography and being the very first Foundation University of the region, the Faculty of Communication of the Hasan Kalyoncu University is one which complies with all these criteria and places importance on international and local/regional interaction and collaboration with its two departments. In this sense, this Faculty will make some contribution to both the region and the country, bringing some “diversity” in the region, training its students who “want to receive qualified education” in the said areas in “qualified and ethical broadcasting” and “production of quality messages”. And this is the “difference” and “achievement” of this Faculty as compared with other faculties of communication.
